RS-001 Spooling Unit Rental: 60,000 lb, Strongback and Brake
RS-001 is a skid-mounted, Isuzu diesel reel stand rated 60,000 lb, with a strongback frame and a braking system. It takes reels up to 110 in diameter x 87 in wide on a 4 in shaft and is built to spool wire rope on or off crane and winch drums for re-reeving and rope changeouts, plus derrick barge, marine and offshore winch work.

Strongback Frame and Braking System
RS-001 is the unit to pick when you want braking on the reel along with a strongback frame. The RS-001 and RS-005 both have a strongback frame, and the braking system is on the RS-001. The strongback keeps the stand solid under big reels, and the braking system helps control the reel as rope pays off toward the crane or winch drum or spools back onto the reel. Units can ship on DNV-certified offshore flat racks for offshore and marine jobs.

Back tension is never more than the reel is rated for, and maximum wire rope diameter depends on rope length. The RS-001 and RS-005 both have a strongback frame, and the RS-001 adds a braking system. All RS units have directional controls and an engine kill, with controls at the power unit, and come with a four-part sling for offloading. Shafts from 3 in to 6 in are available to fit your reel. Rentals are by the day, with operator options available.

Applications
Crane re-reeving and hoist rope changeouts
When a large crane needs new hoist or boom rope, the spooling unit holds the reel and turns it. Spool the old rope off the winch drum onto an empty reel, then pay the new rope off its reel onto the drum during re-reeving. Directional controls let you spool on or off.
Derrick barges and marine winches
Derrick barge and marine operators use our units and spooling crews to change out and respool winch rope.
Offshore and ocean tugs
